Supposedly, that meant I could self-fund the entire cost of the education. I probably could have, with loans. But the whole point of this post is that I didn't think it was worth it to spend that much; I chose the much lower-cost education instead and put that money to different (better) use.

Re: You Don’t Have To Go To Harvard

Isn't Harvard need-blind? Do they not commit themselves to funding you with a combination of scholarships, work-study and student loans? At least it says here that Harvard is need-blind and full-need for all its admitted applicants: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

So was curious what your take was back in 2005. Or did you not apply for financial aid in your application?

Re: Three Thousand Feet in a Basket

Riding
in a hot air balloon over thousands of feet is one of the more relaxing,
rewarding and memorable adventures I've experienced. It shows you stepped back and asked yourself what the others wanted to hear - that you are young and smart, a coder by nature and driven. It shortens nicely in an informal setting to "I'm Tyler, a co-founder of SpeakerText," and the other person can then chose to ask questions about your or about your company.

Re: Reluctant Self-Promotion

I agree. I was very naive and underestimated the need for promotion, sales, marketing, etc. before working on SpeakerText, and I think a lot of people who focus on building product (like myself) do the same thing. You've gotta do the legwork to get your name out there, which is not something that comes naturally to me.

Re: Reluctant Self-Promotion

Awesome. I like what you do. Admittedly, not having very much content with SpeakerText is keeping me from liking it even more! I could say the same about a lot of things, come to think of it. With a lot of software projects, it's not enough to solve a problem. You have to do a lot of work to get your solution into use, too.

Re: Reluctant Self-Promotion

:highfive:
